In the RV world, neighbors come and go.
Some roll out quietly. Others leave behind a trail of broken chairs, tangled hoses, and that weird smell you just can’t explain.
Our latest neighbor? They left behind a storage shed.
I’m not kidding — one of those tall, clean, “I paid way too much for this at Lowe’s” plastic outdoor sheds.
A few days earlier, they had already tossed a bunch of stuff to the curb, which pretty much said “we’re outta here.” So naturally, I assumed the shed was part of the leftovers. Still, just to be safe, my daughter and I asked park management.
Their response?
“Go ahead and take it if you want it.”
✅ Permission granted.
🚛 Shed acquired.
We slid the thing over to our site, and once I had a real look at it, I was floored.
No cracks
No mold
No sun damage
Just one busted hinge on the door
And let me tell you — that hinge? It’s $20 on Amazon.
The shed itself? $800 brand new.
Lesson of the Day: Trash Ain’t Always Trash
People ditch some surprisingly good stuff when they leave RV parks. Maybe they’re in a rush. Maybe they’re over it. Maybe they just don’t want to haul it cross-country.
Whatever the reason, it pays to look. And ask.
In this case, we scored a nearly perfect storage shed that now holds all our gear — and a little pride.
The McGuire Way Takeaway:
👀 Keep your eyes open
🙋♂️ Don’t be afraid to ask
🛠 Fixing something small is often worth it
💰 One man’s trash might save you $800
Moral of the story: You don’t always need to buy new. You just need to be in the right place, at the right time, and willing to drag a plastic shed across a gravel lot with your kid.
Welcome to full-time RV life.
That’s The McGuire Way.
